[UPDATE: Today Thursday 29th February 2024, from 5p.m, I joined other invited CEOs to attend the GS1 STAKEHOLDERS EVENING GATHERING – announced in the flyer below – this evening in Lagos]
A new trend is emerging in which SME manufacturers of Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) are now becoming increasingly conscious of the need to explore the opportunity to become global brands by using GS1 barcodes.
For Manufacturing SMEs that want to successfully access export markets, adopting the GS1 Nigeria barcode system is a crucially important requirement for success.
GS1 Nigeria was founded 7 years ago, under the auspices of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the National Supermarket Operators of Nigeria (NASON), and PoS Shop Limited.
“We are desirous of ensuring that manufacturers and businesspeople move their products freely across Nigeria. We want to ensure that businesses in Nigeria see each other as collaborators rather than competitors. We want to ensure they share information. Our membership structure favours SMEs. 800 companies have registered with us and we have issued over 4000 global trade identification to them.” – Tunde Odunlami, CEO, GS1 Nigeria, during GS1 40th Anniversary @ Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) House, Ikeja, Lagos.
The above quote, credited to the CEO of GS1 Nigeria, greatly resonates with me because I have habitually led collaboration initiatives with fellow entrepreneurs (both male and female) across various industries and markets due to my passionate belief in the power of teamwork.
And it has yielded multiple profitable benefits for my brand. This is why I call myself a “Small Collaborations for Mighty Profits (SC4MP)” Specialist – and actively advocate collaboration amongst businesses – especially SMEs.
Those who are familiar with my company know that “Collabo” is our watchword at RS Ventures Limited!
So, when I read Mr. Odunlami’s words, while researching GS1 Nigeria (after getting their invitation to attend the 29th February 2024 Stakeholder’s discussion with the President of GS1 Global visiting the country), I decided to publish this PDF White Paper sharing my thoughts by highlighting certain critical points.
